From the 1st – 12th November, we’ll be running an Instagram photo challenge – #12daysofmaking #handmakemychristmas. And we’d love you to join us! Read on for daily prompts, to meet your hosts and to find out about our awesome giveaway!
Day One - Introduce yourself and tell us your favourite thing about Christmas/Winter
I am super excited to be hosting Day One of our challenge! If you would like to find out more about us and why I love doing what I do, head on over to the Our Story page.
I feel very privileged to have teamed up with the fabulous makers and artists below to bring you this challenge. This will be my second Christmas on Instagram and I really do love seeing all of your Christmas goodies. You can’t beat a cosy looking flatlay for getting into the Christmas spirit!
It’s so important to support small, independent makers and artists. This is a great opportunity to encourage those, you already know, meet some new ones and share your business with the community!
DAY TWO - RED AND GREEN
The aim of Ethel Dredd is to make beautiful, practical items that keep you warm and cosy. Uncomplicated designs, hand knitted in super chunky yarn to accentuate the stitch texture. Unique woolly accessories that make you happy on days when you’re in need of a bit of colour and cosiness!
Each yarn is picked with quality, warmth, and comfort in mind. Merino wool is slightly moisture repellent and keeps you very warm, but is soft, light-weight and breathable so you never feel stifled or overly wrapped up. The premium acrylic yarn used is a great vegan alternative to wool. It is soft and warm, it comes in rich, vibrant colours and is easy to care for.
DAY THREE - MAKERS LITTLE HELPER
Jess has always loved arts and crafts and comes from a creative family. So when the time came to begin her own family, she left a career in tattooing behind to build her Etsy shop.
Jess works on building Stay Art Home Mama, whilst looking after her two year old son. Her beautiful watercolour prints are a nod to her love of tattoo style art. She also works with acrylics to create unique and colourful marbled hanging hearts. These are often overlaid with hand painted original designs.
She finds inspiration in nature, loves exploring and having fun with colour.
DAY FOUR - GIFT FOR...
Annette has been sewing for over 20 years. She started Sewing to the Moon in January 2017 after gifting her reusable bags to friends and family for Christmas.
Annette loves making handmade gifts, because she can create something with personal style. Mama’s enjoy her products because they are quality, handmade and professional.
She starts all of her orders out by using a personally designed pattern. Then cuts the chosen fabric and sews up the item. Adding embroidery if that option has been chosen as well.
DAY FIVE - GIFT WRAP
In one form or another, Lynn has been interested in craft and design all her life. In fact, she made and decorated cake’s for over twenty years! When she stumbled across polymer clay two years ago, she discovered her true passion.
She finds inspiration everywhere from ancient architecture to living nature and enjoys including a love of eastern art in her designs.
Lynn puts heart and soul into every design. From the very first sketch to putting all the elements together. This makes up the piece which is then painted and embellished before it is finally baked in an oven to strengthen.
DAY SIX - CHRISTMAS TRADITIONS
Sinead’s shop, is a treasure trove of whimsical steampunk jewellery and mixed media art.
She has been creating both since childhood. She has always wanted to own her own shop or gallery to sell her beautiful work. Life and circumstances hasn’t quite aligned for that to happen… yet!
Sinead currently sells on Etsy, where she finds she is able to reach people all over the world! She also writes a fabulous blog full of her creations and insights into her process and background.
DAY SEVEN - WHO'S ON YOUR CHISTMAS LIST?
I will also be hosting Day seven of our photo challenge. This day is all about other talented makers and artists that you love!
Spread the love and a little Christmas cheer, by shouting about the people you will be buying from this year.
Nothing stamps unique, quite like a handmade gift and I adore supporting the creative community by shopping handmade whenever I can. I honestly can’t wait to start Christmas shopping this year. I’ve been so lucky to have connected with many of you on my handmade journey. I know this challenge will mean discovering more of you.
I’m a little concerned my Christmas list could be very long!
DAY EIGHT - GIFT WRAP
Lauren has a beautiful selection of products in her shop including flower crowns, bespoke frames & unique wedding gifts. Even though each product is different, she loves to tie rustic and floral themes into each item.
She loves woodland walks and photographing creations with a woodland backdrop, as well as natural lighting where possible.
DAY NINE - STOCKING FILLERS
Beverley has loved sewing and all things art and crafty from a very early age. She has memories of doodling bright pictures to stick all over her bedroom walls and happy days playing with her Nan’s little sewing stool – mesmerised by the treasures inside. Buttons of all shapes and sizes, threads, little bundles of cloth – she would play with for hours. She then went on to study fashion and textiles at college followed by a Surface Pattern Design diploma.
Anyone who loves gorgeous ‘stand out from the crowd’ pieces, colourful unique prints, butterflies, peacocks, leaves and all things pretty will love owning a Pip & Bindle item!
DAY TEN - WHAT'S NEW IN THE WORKSHOP
Ever since childhood, Becki has been collecting beach treasures while her brother and sister played in the sand. Even now, she’s the one lagging behind because she’s always on the look out for natural elements that she can weave into her designs!
She spends most weekends beach combing and couldn’t think of anything she’d rather do.
Although she lives in country side, Becki is very lucky to be a short car trip away from some of Kent’s most beautiful beaches.
DAY ELEVEN - STARRY NIGHT
Jayne has been making things for as long as she can remember. She loves making cards because she enjoys seeing the happiness a handmade item can bring.
Henry is Jayne’s very nosy and extremely sociable Pug. He is the original ‘One little pug’ and provides inspiration for many of her cards.
However, It is not just all about Henry! Jayne also creates a number of other ranges, as well as one of a kind cards and personalized items. Designing cards that make people smile and a passion for offering cards that are just a little bit different from those that you find on the high street, is what Jayne loves most about what she does.
DAY TWELVE - GRATEFUL
The ethos behind Tiny Acorn Might Oak is: ‘Nourish your soul. Do what lights you up. Embrace creativity. Choose peace.’
Louise creates beautiful affirmation pebbles, cards and mixed media art working this ethos into all of her designs.
She firmly believes that we all have the innate inner strength of the mighty oak – and that with lots of little steps (tiny acorns!), we can achieve anything we set our minds to – and create a life that we love.
